Putting together a successful CV is easy once you know how. It's a case of taking all your skills and experience and tailoring them to the job you're applying for. But what if you don't meet the right criteria? Well, I've put together the following tips to help you get started in creating a successful CV and securing your first job.

Besides being a memory note, your resume is also your first and the last impression. It doesn’t matter whether you crack the interview or not, the interviewer might still remember you for your remarkable Resume, they might even get in touch with you for an opening later.

Here are Some tips to create an impressive CV:

Up-To-Date Is Refreshing: You use only smart phones now, you wear clothes that are in-season when you meet your friends. Your resume shouldn’t be an exception. Do not go to an interview with an outdated resume, a lot must have happened since, you might have moved up the corporate ladder or gained new experience. Show these developments on your Resume; keep it up-to-date.

Presentation Counts: What is the point of wearing branded clothes if they are shabby? The same principal applies to your skill-sets. You might have a repository of skills, but, are they presented well? Unless the interviewers see it, how will they know about your talents? You should stick to a neat font, with enough space between your words and lines. You must also highlight your achievements using bold or italicized formatting. Pointers and bullets give definition to your presentation; but, do not over-do it.

Numbers Matter: This is a fact that you must pay attention to. Chronological is always logical. Present your skills and accomplishments in a sequential and orderly manner with relevant dates. Display your current aptitude or proficiency in numeric values wherever applicable. For example, you can write - Level 1 Green Belt certified. You can use figures and percentages too; especially to show the improvement in a certain project.

Job Suitability: You apply for a job because the job description matches your experience and skill-set. Give the interviewers what they want to see in a candidate. But, do not fudge or misrepresent facts to match the job description. Highlight your key skills that the organization is looking for. For example, if the job requires excellent language skills and you possess it, you must mention language fluency prominently in the summary of your resume.

Befriend The Search Engine: Getting noticed is important. In today’s social media-driven world, acceptance is important. Therefore, your resume must include recommendations. Upload your resume on various job portals. Add references and recommendations from colleagues and previous bosses. For example, a LinkedIn profile allows your peers and seniors to post remarks and recommendations for you. Use correct keywords in your resume that match the common keyword search on the internet. This could be a title of the job that you are looking for or the type of the industry that you want to work in, such as ‘Project Manager; or ’Project Lead in IT’.

There is no book or philosophy that you can use to write an impressive CV. It is possible that a simple resume gets as much attention as a resume with watermarks and fancy fonts. Perceptions differ based on the organisation or industry that you are applying to.

However, keep a check on spelling and grammar mistakes, and devise your own unique CV; it will increase your visibility. An impressive CV alone might not land you a job, but it makes finding a job easier.
