Western Power Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

The purpose of the Western Power Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship is to support and encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying their first year of an Undergraduate in relevant courses listed below. As well as receiving $5000 each semester scholars will be eligible for work placements and other relevant support offered by Western Power. The total value of the scholarship is $30,000 for a 3 year course and $40,000 for a 4 year course.

Eligibility guidelines

In order to be eligible for this scholarship you must:
  • be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and be able to provide supporting evidence of your indigenous identity;
  • be a current first year or second year student;
  • be enrolled and remain enrolled in either part-time or full-time study load (part-time will be paid pro rata);
  • reside in Western Australia for the duration of the degree;
  • have achieved a minimum ATAR of 70 or equivalent notional ATAR;
  • agree to consider completion of at least one period of vacation employment at Western Power; and
  • be studying an Undergraduate Degree in:

Selection criteria

Selection will be based on your:

academic merit; and
personal statements.

As part of the Application process, students are required to provide a 500 word personal statement;

What do you see yourself doing in the three years after completion of your university degree?  How do you balance your studies with other commitments in your life?

Access to the Portal is available between application opening and closing dates.
