Scholarship Awards
Three winners will be selected each year:
🥇 Grand Prize: $8,000
🥈 First Runner-Up: $2,000
🥉 Second Runner-Up: $1,000
The scholarship amount will be paid directly to the winner’s college or university and can be used for tuition, fees, or educational expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the MPOWER Global Citizen Scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:
Academic Requirement
Must be accepted at or currently enrolled in a full-time degree program
The institution must be a U.S. or Canadian school supported by MPOWER
Immigration Status Requirement
For students studying in the United States, you must:
Have a valid visa that permits study in the U.S., OR
Be protected under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), OR
Be a U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder)
For students studying in Canada, you must:
Be a Canadian Permanent Resident, OR
Have a valid Canadian study permit
Important Note
This scholarship is only for international and DACA students.
U.S. citizens studying in the U.S. and Canadian citizens studying in Canada are not eligible.
You do not need to be an MPOWER loan borrower to apply.
You must have your visa stamped in your passport before the closing date.
Selection Process
Winners are selected solely based on their essay submission.
Applications are evaluated on:
Clarity of thought and strong communication skills in English
A clear connection between your field of study and your future goals
Your potential as a leader, scientist, entrepreneur, or change-maker
Overall quality and originality of the essay
A panel of judges will review the final applications and select the winners. The decision of the judges is final.
Winners are expected to be notified within approximately 8 weeks after the deadline.
