Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) 2025-26 – Eligibility, Benefits & Application Process

The Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) is one of India’s most prestigious scholarship programs for science students. Established in 1958 to celebrate the birth centenary of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, this scholarship aims to identify and nurture talented students who aspire to build careers in science and research.

For students in West Bengal who are passionate about Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Engineering, or Medicine, JBNSTS provides both financial support and academic recognition.

Scholarship Categories Under JBNSTS

JBNSTS offers two main scholarship levels along with a special scheme for female students.

1) Junior Talent Search Test (JTST)

Target Group: Students who have just passed Class 10.

Eligibility:

  • Must have passed Class 10 with at least 75% marks.

  • Must be enrolled in Class 11 (Science stream) in West Bengal.

Benefits:

  • ₹1,250 per month for two years (Class 11 & 12).

  • Annual book grant of ₹2,500.

This scholarship encourages students to continue their studies in the science stream after Class 10.


2) Senior Talent Search Test (STST)

Target Group: Students who have passed Class 12.

Eligibility:

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in:

    • Basic Sciences (Honours)

    • Engineering

    • Medicine

  • Must be studying in a registered institution in West Bengal.

Benefits:

  • ₹4,000 per month for the entire course duration (4–5 years).

  • Annual book grant of ₹5,000.

3) Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (BKMB)

Target Group: Exclusively for female students.

Eligibility:

  • Same as Junior and Senior Talent Search categories.

  • Designed specifically to encourage girls to pursue careers in STEM fields.

  • Financial support identical to JTST and STST scholars.

This initiative promotes gender equality and encourages more girls to enter scientific fields.


Selection Process

The selection process is competitive and focuses on testing conceptual understanding and scientific aptitude rather than rote learning.

Phase 1: Written Examination

  • Covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.

  • Junior Level: Based on Class 10 syllabus.

  • Senior Level: Based on Class 12 syllabus.

Phase 2: Interview

Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by experts to evaluate:

  • Scientific thinking

  • Concept clarity

  • Depth of understanding

Phase 3: Scientific Creativity Test

(Mainly for Senior Level candidates)

  • Tests innovation skills and problem-solving ability.
